Adorning the roof of the Mackintosh building at The Glasgow School of Art, this ironwork finial is an unusual and unique example of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's distinctive Art Nouveau style. Mackintosh depicts abstracted natural forms in a three dimensional composition. Imagery of a bird and leaves or trees, are said to represent Glasgow's coat of arms and are symbols that appear in the legend of Saint Mungo.
